(Isn’t the spectral raptor adorable?)
“Nature Triumphs” a charity anthology, edited and curated by Alison Armstrong and myself, Pixie Bruner, to be published on Dark Moon Rising Publications (sole proprietor, Kasey Hill) is open for submission of short stories (limit 5K words), flash fiction (1,500 word or under), and poetry (no word or form limits) that fit within the ecological dark speculative fiction or horror genres.
If “Nature Triumphs” and the piece shows nature overcoming, defeating or resisting humanity’s assaults and attacks on it, we want to read it! All proceeds will go to The Nature Conservancy- all authors will receive a digital copy and discounted print copies in lieu of payment. Donation transparency and proof will be provided to submitters. This is a volunteer anthology.
30+ authors, over 50 stories and poems representing science fiction, horror, slipstream and the genres in between!
* It must be eco-horror dark speculative genre. It need not have a happy-ending or be solarpunk, but Nature must have the upper hand/claw, tentacle or vine at the end.
* Be it killer bees, sentient man-eating plants, mad science, or earthquakes/tsunamis or forest fires, we want to see stories that deal with the impact of humanity on the environment and the environment impacting back.
* No pieces containing coronavirus/COVID-19 references will be accepted. If you have pandemic horror- it needs to be environmental/ecological focused. Think thrice before pandemic horror and make sure it’s on theme.
* Extreme horror is welcome, but it must have literary merit. Don’t just go for the squick for no reason! Senseless excessive violence, etc, violence towards women, children and animals must not be excessive or gratuitous and mere depravity will be judged harshly and likely rejected. This is a cautionary horror anthology.
* Reprints are welcome as long as you hold the copyright to the piece.
* All submissions will come with editor feedback from the editors and suggestions to workshop the piece if accepted.
